1920’s Black Leather Layered Graphite Bracelet

Wrist wraps and layered bracelets are some of my favorite styles of jewelry to wear so I started making leather bracelets with hand sewn beads that wrap a couple of times around the wrist. I had these beautiful black graphite beads with an iridescence to them to make some interesting jewelry with but I needed to start with a closure of some sort first. Digging around my shop I could not find one so I went down to this great fabric store in downtown Houston and came across this Betty Boop-like button. I thought what great character it would add to this piece of jewelry without taking away from the iridescent beads while adding a vintage vibe. What an elevated little show piece it turned out to be. This 1920’s inspired wrist wrap bracelet is now one of my favorites. It’s so fun when a jewelry piece reminds me of a certain time period. There are different parts of our history that I love and it is so fun to bring them alive again through my work. The roaring 20’s have such an interesting history with flappers, dancers, bootleggers and all that jazz.
